Today I had off of work as it was a USA-ovbserved holiday of Juneteenth. I had hoped to have a nice hike as well, at Woolverton, but the wind was blowing strongly and the clouds were very dark, and threatening a storm.
I decided to just use the 20m Ham Stick o the car, as this would help if it started raining hard. Unfortunately the pull-off from the side of the road is directly underneath some power lines. The deployment of the antenna on the top of the car is almost a prototypical example of what not to do.
The park is a 3-fer, as it is also part of the Bruce Trail (CA-5628), and the Niagara Escarpment Biosphere (CA-0063). You can see the marking for the Bruce trail from the pull-off.
If you walk just a short ways down the trail you come to the edge of the escarpment, with a great view of Grimsby, Lake Ontario, and Toronto. I had a quick chat on the VE3RSB repeater, our club repeater, that was 29 km away, and it was as clear as a bell since it was an unobstructed line of site. Unfortunately from the pull-off, I was not able to get data on my cellphone. Thankfully I scheduled the activation and the Reverse Beacon Network spotted me with no issues.
I was hoping the photo would pick up the large array of 6 antennas for CFTR 680 AM, but it seems it is hard to pick out from the photo due to the resolution and haze.
